Technical Approach
For ITSM connect, BVQ° acts as a centralized IT infrastructure discovery service. By deploying BVQ°, organizations can gain greater control over their IT assets by knowing which servers or services are working with which components. This can improve security and optimize resource utilization, enabling organizations to make informed decisions and effectively leverage their technology investments.
Data integration
BVQ° uses available standard product APIs from the Atlassian Jira Cloud for all data transfers, so there's no need to install an additional plugin on the target side.
Topology data is pushed from BVQ° to Atlassian Assets after it has been persisted. We therefore used a system of serialised identifiers to describe and match the different objects. The received BVQ° objects are stored as Configuration Items (CIs) in the Atlassian Asset database. We automatically set up the necessary schema configuration and send the corresponding assets. As we patch the schema, you are free to extend (not reduce) it to suit your needs.
We have built a lot of references between the different configuration items so that, for example, service agents can use the Atlassian object graph to identify potential points of failure in the system landscape. If one item appears to be broken, the graph can show which other items are likely to be affected.
Process Integration and example Use Case
The integration between the two tools consists of topology data (objects and their relationships) and alert rules and their respective alert results.
The topology data is transferred to an Atlassian Asset schema, where you can choose to use an existing schema or create your BVQ° Config items in a separate space.
For BVQ° alert results, you can choose to push them as Alerts in the Jira Service Management Operations product or as Issues (work items) in any Jira Cloud project.
The Alert level and the severity of the underlying Alert rule are used in the integration, where you can map their combination to the alert or issue priority.
BVQ° takes care of creating new alerts/issues and updating existing ones. In addition, you'll find backlinks to the alert result in the BVQ° Web UI, so you can easily start your root cause analysis. Whenever possible, BVQ° will link issues to the appropriate asset for a smoother remediation.
