Add platform specific scanners

BVQ uses data collected by scanners from the connected systems. The scanners are product-specific and managed in the BVQ server in the scanner area.

In the following picture you can see where you can find the scanner area and how it is structured.

Compute layer

VMware vSphere scanner
  1. Prepare your system :VMware vSphere preparation

  2. Select +VMware and fill out the mandatory fields
    1. do not forget to append "/sdk" to the URL
    2. Username has to be "user@vcenter"
    3. do not forget to check the event scan if you like to see VMware event data in BVQ.
    4. do not change the defaults unless there is an important reason to do so.
    5. You cannot access the SDK URL at https://servername/sdk
      The service at https://localhost/sdk is not an HTML webserver that can serve web pages. 

  3. After setting up the VMware scanner, use the save button (1), to finish your work.
  4. (warning)  The Storage Adapter Performance Scan scans all paths from each SCSI disk to SAN and will generate a lot of data. Switch this on, only when you need this data.
    This can also be switched for only some hours when you see the need to analyze round robin behavior of storage paths.

IBM PowerVM scanner
  1. Prepare your system : IBM PowerVM preparation

  2. Select +Power and fill out the mandatory fields
    1. do not change the defaults unless there is an important reason to do so.

  3. After setting up the scanner, use the save button (1), to finish your work.

IBM AIX or Linux scanner
  1. Prepare your system : OS Agent for AIX & Linux preparation
  2. Select +AIX or +Linux and fill out the mandatory fields
    1. do not change the defaults unless there is an important reason to do so.

  3. Press the Save button to generate the BVQ Agent for AIX download package and to receive installation instructions for the OS agent.
  4. Press Save&Exit to complete the scanner configuration.
    1. Note: Unlike other BVQ scanners, the AIX and Linux scanners are not actively scanning any systems but are waiting for them to send data. This means, a BVQ Agent for AIX or Linux needs to be installed on every partition that should be monitored by BVQ before any data is available for analysis.

Network layer

Brocade SAN (REST) scanner
  1. Brocade REST interface is only available for Fabric O8.2.1 and higher - use BVQ Brocade BNA connection if you are at smaller FOS levels
  2. Prepare your system : Brocade SAN Switch preparation
  3. Select +Brocade and fill out the mandatory fields
    1. do not change the defaults unless there is an important reason to do so.
  4. After setting up the scanner, use the save button (1), to finish your work.

CISCO SAN scanner
  1. Prepare your system : Cisco SAN preparation
            a.   Select  +CISCO and fill out the mandatory fields
  2. do not change the defaults unless there is an important reason to do so.
  3. After setting up the scanner, use the save button (1), to finish your work.
