About this task

When the VIOS is not able to parse data out of its Configuration Management Database (CMDB) the HMC will get a message “Unable to connect to the Database Error occurred” when managing virtual networks or virtual storage on a managed system. This error will also be found in the scanner log.

Procedure

Check for properly configuring name resolution on VIOS ( check /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf)

If this has already been done you might have to take additional measures stopping and starting VIOS daemons that are used to communicate with HMC. Reboot the VIOS or use a script to stop and start the VIOS as well as refresh CMDB.

The link to the script and a "how to" which describes the solution steps in more detail can be found here:

When Using HMC GUI you see message "Unable to connect to the Database Error occurred "
