Which VMs are affected by a latency peak on my IBM Flashsystem

We use end to end analysis to find the VMs which are affected by a latency peak on an IBM Flashsystem.

We created a small video to make this easier to understand.

We use the SVC - VDisk to virtual machine  dashboard to find out which of our VMs are affected by the latency peak.

  1. This windows shows all VDisks which are somehow connected to VMware. We recognize which VDisks were affected by the latency peak.
  2. This is the same as window (1) but shows the VDisk data rates

We select the VDisks in question and start the analysis

  3. This window is belonging to the analysis section and displays the IO and data rate from the selected VDisk
  4. The same as (3) but shows the latency peak

  1. This windows shows the SAN port utilization of all SAN ports which can be used by the VDisk in question.
Nothing bad here - utilization is low!

  2. This window shows buffer credit waits or SAN errors if any - no problems here

  3. This is the view on the VMware luns which are created from the selected VDisks - we again see the performance degradation

  4. This is the screen where all VMs are displayed which use the SVC VDisks. We can see that the SAP VM is every heavily reacting on the performance problem. The latency peak is also visible here

Dashboards help you understand the origins of problems.

The next step is to use the BVQ Analysis GUI to find the root causes to really solve the problem.
