PowerVM Scanner error “Unable to connect to Database”



About this task

When the VIOS is not able to parse data out of its Configuration Management Database (CMDB) the HMC will get a message “Unable to connect to the Database Error occurred” when managing virtual networks or virtual storage on a managed system. This error will also be found in the scanner log.

Procedure

Check for properly configuring name resolution on VIOS ( check /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf)

If this has already been done you might have to take additional measures stopping and starting VIOS daemons that are used to communicate with HMC. You can reboot the VIOS, but using a script to stop and start the VIOS as well as refresh the CMDB is recommended.
